The Coolest Vampire Bad Boys

These days Vampires sparkle and moon over school girls – not cool! Back in the day Vampires were immortal bad boys who knew how to kick ass and have a good time. In their honour here is my list of who I feel are horror film’s coolest Vampires ;

The Lost Boys (1987)

Vampire: David ( Kiefer Sutherland)

Ok, granted ‘David’ isn’t the most badass of names but a bleached blonde Kiefer Sutherland gave David some serious demonic swagger. The amoral David could switch from ‘too cool for school’ to serial killer in seconds. David introduced the sexy vampire to horror films, instead of a crusty undead corpse or a middle aged man with slicked back hair in a dodgy suit, David was a youthful soulless bad boy, enjoying the immortal life like a rock star.

Interview With A Vampire : The Vampire Chronicles (1994)

Vampire : Le Stat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise)

Anne Rice author of The Vampire Chronicles series was initially horrified by the casting of Tom Cruise in the role of Le Stat. But after seeing Tom Cruise’s portrayal of the suave and villainous vampire she changed her mind and actually apologised in writing for ever doubting Cruise. Her doubts were understandable but Cruise did give a powerhouse performance in the film that is both alluring and chilling. Le Stat is a gentleman and a bad boy, who uses his murderous abilities to slaughter his way through high society. His unscrupulous confidence is mesmerizing, In his partnership with the gentle Louis De Pointe Du Lac, we can see a clear parallel between good and evil and though Louis emerges as the hero, Le Stat makes being evil look like so much fun.

Fright Night (2011)

Vampire: Jerry (Colin Farrell)

Rather controversially I have chosen Colin Farrell’s portray of Jerry in the 2011 remake over Chris Sarandon’s in the 1985 original. I chose Farrell over Sarandon because the character of Jerry is presented as being effortlessly cool and sexy and I felt that Farrell’s embodiment of the vampire next door, oozed more sexual confidence and self- assurance then Sarandon’s. Jerry brings together sexy and scary in a deadly mix, his ability to attract woman so as to make them his prey is terrifyingly believable and he looks great in a tank top.

Blade (1998)

Vampire : Blade (Wesley Snipes)

Even though Blade was only half vampire and not very proud of it, he still classifies as being a cool vampire basically because even in being only half vampire he’s still cooler than Edward Cullen. Blade is on a mission to rid the world of vampires and look damn awesome while doing it. Blade takes down an entire club of bloody vampires single handed while working a pair of shades ; beyond cool.
